Best Green Smoothie Recipe
With this basic recipe, you can make ANY fruit smoothie! Once you learn the formula in this recipe, you’ll be able to mix it up with different greens and fruits.
The best part is that you only need a few simple ingredients and less than 10 minutes to make a healthy homemade green smoothie.
How Green Smoothies Can Help You Increase Your Intake of Fruits and Veggies
Do you need more fruits and veggies each day?
The recommended serving of fruits and veggies is 4 to 5 servings a day. But the health benefits are even better if you eat seven or more servings of fruits and veggies daily. Especially if they are consumed in favor of highly processed foods.
Eating more fruits and veggies can help you lose weight and improve overall health and wellness.
This green smoothie recipe is for you if you want to fit in more fruits and veggies!
I eat 7 to 10 servings of fruits and veggies most days. I also eat whole food, plant-based. As a busy working mom, that makes smoothies a must for me!
Why Green Smoothies?
I love smoothies because they are an easy and quick way to get in more fruits and veggies. Especially when I am low on time or running low on groceries!
The ingredients in this green smoothie are affordable, simple, and quick to prepare. You can also take it on the go to work, school, or the gym!
This recipe is also versatile since you can use different varieties of greens and fruit.
It’s also chock full of healthy ingredients that boost your energy! It is also great because it’s full of fiber, which will help keep you fuller longer.
It’s a lot easier and takes less time to consume these ingredients in smoothie form than it would be to eat them.
I still need to eat a lot of fruits and veggies to meet my goal of 7-10 servings a day, but having a smoothie helps!
I like fruit smoothies, but I really enjoy chocolate smoothies. Who knew whole food, plant-based eating could taste so good?! I love it when I can eat food that is enjoyable and good for me.
Green smoothies are better for you than green juices. This is because when you juice fruits and veggies, you eliminate all the fiber.
The fiber in green smoothies helps keep you full and has many health benefits.
You can enjoy this green smoothie for breakfast or a snack. Or you can enjoy it at the end of the day to sneak in the fruits and veggies you may have missed throughout the day!
You can play around with this smoothie recipe and make it your own by using different greens and fruits.
You can even add nut butter (about a tablespoon) to add creaminess and a protein boost.
I add ½ cup of canned, rinsed garbanzo beans to my green smoothie. This adds protein. You can’t taste it in the green smoothie, and the added protein and fiber help keep me fuller longer!

More About the Ingredients
I share the nutritional information of the foods in this recipe because I know I love knowing the many benefits of the foods I eat.
I am also passionate about nutrition and using nutrition to improve my health.
Eating these foods often, especially in place of highly processed foods, can improve your health too!
Spinach is:
- Loaded with fiber, which keeps you fuller longer. This results in a lower intake of calories daily.
- High in antioxidants. Antioxidants can help fight inflammation. Inflammation can often be a factor in difficulty losing weight. Antioxidants can also help with premature aging
- Full of vitamins and minerals, in particular vitamin K.
Instead of using spinach in this recipe, you can also try kale. Kale has a stronger taste in smoothies than spinach.
So, if you are new to green smoothies, I recommend starting with spinach. But kale is also nutritious, so it is worth trying!
There’s a variety of frozen fruit you can try, such as
- Blueberries
- Mangoes
- Pineapple
- Strawberries
- Cherries
- Raspberries
- Blackberries
- Bananas
Some fruits add more natural sweetness than others. The fruits that add the most sweetness from the ones listed above are:
- Mango
- Pineapple
- Cherries
- Bananas
You can also try a mix of any of the above fruits.
There are also other fruits than the ones mentioned here that you could try. Get creative!
All fruit contains vitamins, minerals, and fiber, so you can’t go wrong with your chosen ones!

Blender
I recommend using a high-speed blender. It’s much better at getting the smoothie to be smooth.
A high-speed blender like a Vitamix Blender is a good investment for smoothie making but can also do much more in the kitchen!
I had a regular blender for years before investing in a high-speed one, and I will never go back! You can really tell the difference in the texture of your smoothies.
