While no magic wand can make fertility problems disappear, numerous studies show that certain lifestyle changes may help naturally improve the chances of conception by thickening the uterine lining.

During the menstrual cycle, the uterine lining thickens. It does this to prepare for embryo implantation and to nourish and support the developing embryo.
For natural conception, a thick lining is crucial for successful implantation and pregnancy.
In IVF treatment, the thickness of the uterine lining is monitored carefully to increase the chances of a successful embryo transfer.

Hormonal imbalances, such as low estrogen levels. A blood test can help determine if you have hormonal imbalances.
Uterine fibroids, which are non-cancerous growths in the uterus
Chronic endometritis, which is an inflammation of the uterine lining that bacterial infections can cause.
Infections such as pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) can cause scarring and thinning of the uterine lining. If you have any infections, it's important to address them.
Poor blood flow to the uterus, which can result from factors like age, smoking, and even your posture.
Damaged endometrial lining caused by surgical procedures, such as dilation and curettage (D&C). Surgical procedures can cause scar tissue in the reproductive organs, which can make it difficult for the endometrium to thicken.

Infertility or difficulty conceiving: A thin uterine lining can make it difficult for a fertilized egg to implant and grow.
Painful periods: A thin lining can lead to heavy and painful menstruation as the lining sheds.
Irregular periods: A woman with a thin uterine lining may experience irregular cycles or missed periods.
Not all women with thin uterine lining experience symptoms. And not all women with symptoms have thin linings.
How Can I Thicken My Uterine Lining?
If you have been diagnosed with a thin uterine lining or suspect you may have one, you may be wondering how to thicken it.
While medical intervention may be necessary in some cases, diet and lifestyle changes may also help balance hormones and increase blood circulation to the blood vessels in the uterus.
Balancing hormones and increased blood circulation to the uterus are key to a healthy uterine lining and general fertility!
Don’t stress about making all these changes at once unless you want to! Starting with small lifestyle changes can be effective in reaching your fertility goals.

Here are some tips to consider:
1. Nourish Your Body
Nourishing your body with a balanced diet is one of the best ways to get a thick uterine lining.
The following can help with a thin uterine lining as well as overall health!
Eat lots of dark leafy greens like spinach and kale, as they are rich in iron and folate.
Consuming plenty of healthy fats like Omega-3 fatty acids in nuts and seeds can also promote healthy uterine blood flow.
Protein can also help build the uterine lining. If you are vegetarian or vegan, you can opt for nuts and beans for protein instead of animal protein, such as red meat.
Eat foods rich in fiber, like whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. Aim for at least five servings of fruits and vegetables daily. But the more, the better!
Limit or eliminate processed foods and sugar.
Stay hydrated with water. Aim for at least eight 8 oz glasses of water daily. You may need more depending on your activity level and other factors. Always have a water bottle with you to ensure you have water when needed!
Limit or eliminate unhealthy vegetable oils such as corn and canola oil. Choose oils like olive oil instead.
2. Consider Supplements
Supplements can be a helpful addition to a healthy diet.
After consulting with your doctor, consider incorporating supplements such as:
These supplements can support fertility and help thicken the endometrial lining!
Choose whole food-based supplements from trusted sources. I took a whole-food prenatal vitamin like this one when I was trying to conceive my rainbow baby.
Also, remember to eat a nutrient-rich diet along with taking supplements.
Although not a "natural" remedy, low-dose aspirin may help support fertility by increasing uterine blood flow.

I know it’s hard to not feel stressed when dealing with infertility and/or miscarriage.
Try techniques like deep breathing, meditation, and mindfulness to reduce stress. These techniques can also improve your overall well-being when you do them consistently.

Getting enough sleep is essential for overall health and fertility.
Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep each night and practice good sleep hygiene habits like creating a relaxing bedtime routine.
I use a fitness watch to track my sleep, stress, and activity level. This helps me keep on top of any issues so that I can address them.
7. Avoid Toxins
Toxins like BPA, phthalates, parabens, and pesticides can interfere with hormonal balance and fertility.
They can also cause low luteal phase progesterone levels. Avoiding products that contain these toxins is important.
Choose natural and organic products when possible. Also, avoid the Dirty Dozen foods (produce with high levels of toxins) and instead look for Clean Fifteen.
Try not to stress out too much about avoiding toxins.
You will never be able to avoid them completely! Just do the best you can and start with one small change at a time.

8. Exercises that Promote Blood Flow to the Uterus
Practices like yoga for fertility can promote blood flow to the uterus, improving uterine lining health.
Certain positions, like Child's Pose, can be especially helpful. As a bonus, yoga can help you feel less stressed, which is essential for overall health and fertility!

9. Good Posture
Good posture aids in maintaining blood flow to the pelvis and is integral to overall health and fertility.
Having a desk job, I know how difficult it can be to keep good posture when you’re sitting all day!
One thing that helped me was getting a standing desk like this one.
Standing more is good for your overall health and pelvic blood flow. And increased pelvic blood flow can help thicken the uterine lining!
Some tips for good posture include sitting up straight, keeping feet flat on the ground, and avoiding crossing legs for long periods.
10. Keep Your Feet Warm
According to traditional Chinese medicine, keeping your feet warm can promote blood flow to the pelvic area, supporting fertility.
Wearing socks or slippers and avoiding walking on cold surfaces like tile or concrete can also be helpful.
I wore socks like these when I was trying to conceive my rainbow baby.
11. Abdominal Massage
Abdominal massage can aid blood flow to the uterus and promote thickening of the uterine lining.
Gently massaging the pelvis using circular motions can be helpful. For added benefit, you can put heat on your abdomen, using a hot water bottle or heating pad to warm the area before the massage!
