Have you ever felt stuck, like you need a fresh start but don’t know where to begin?
I’ve been there more times than I’d like to admit. Last year, I was overwhelmed with my never-ending to-do list and unsure of what I even wanted out of life anymore.
So, I grabbed a pen and paper (old-school style) and started asking myself some hard questions.
That’s when I realized the power of self-reflection—it’s something we often overlook, but it can be the key to hitting the reset button.
If you’re ready to refresh your life, these 30 prompts could be just what you need. Let’s jump in!
Getting Started with Self-Reflection
Self-reflection is an awesome tool for getting back on track, but it’s not always easy.
Life is busy, and taking a step back to think can feel like a luxury.
But that pause—taking time to reflect—might be exactly what you need.
Here are some prompts to help you think about where you are and where you want to go.
What does a “fresh start” mean to you?
A fresh start doesn’t always mean a huge life change. For me, it’s about small shifts that make a big impact—like tweaking my morning routine or finally letting go of old habits.
What would a fresh start look like for you?
What are the biggest lessons you’ve learned this year?
Even the tough moments teach us something. Think about the challenges you’ve faced—what did they teach you about yourself, your strengths, and areas where you can improve?
What goals did you set last year, and did you achieve them?
It’s time for a little reality check. Look at the goals you set and see if you made progress. Don’t be hard on yourself—life happens.
But recognizing what worked (and what didn’t) can help you move forward with more clarity.
What are three things you’re grateful for today?
Gratitude is more powerful than we realize. Even on the rough days, taking a moment to list a few things you’re thankful for can change your mindset.
What are three things, big or small, that you’re grateful for today?
Understanding Your Current Self
Before you can grow, you need to understand where you’re starting from. We all have blind spots when it comes to ourselves, but that’s okay.
This section is about being honest with where you are right now.
What strengths do you overlook?
We all have strengths we don’t give ourselves enough credit for. I often forget to appreciate how far I’ve come because I’m focused on the next goal.
What strengths do you have that you might take for granted?
How do you define success?
Success looks different for everyone. For me, it’s about balance and fulfillment—not just money or status.
How do you measure success? Is it career achievements, personal growth, or relationships?
What’s holding you back from reaching your goals?
There’s usually something stopping us from moving forward—whether it’s fear, procrastination, or just not knowing where to start.
What’s the biggest thing holding you back?
What habits are keeping you stuck?
Sometimes, the things that keep us from growing are habits we’ve outgrown.
Maybe it’s scrolling endlessly on social media or putting things off. What’s one habit you need to ditch to make room for better ones?
Embracing Change and Growth
Change can be tough, but it’s essential for growth. If you want a fresh start, embracing change—however uncomfortable—is key.
What positive changes do you want to make this year?
Think about where you want to go in the next year.

What’s something new you’d like to try?
It could be a new hobby, a career shift, or learning a new skill.
Growth happens when we step outside our comfort zones. What’s something you’ve been putting off because you were too unsure or scared?
When was the last time you stepped outside your comfort zone?
For me, it was starting my own business. At the time, it felt terrifying, but looking back, it was one of the best decisions I’ve made.
When was the last time you took a risk or did something challenging?
How do you deal with setbacks?
We all face setbacks. But how we respond is what makes the difference. Do you push through, or do you need to step back and reframe things?
Think about how you handle difficulties and whether it’s helping you move forward.
Clarifying Values and Priorities
What really matters to you? This is the question you need to ask to get clear on your direction.
It’s easy to get lost in other people’s expectations, but when you focus on your own values, you’ll feel more aligned with who you truly are.
What are your core values, and do you live by them?
Think about what really matters to you—family, health, creativity, etc.
Sometimes we get caught up in what we “should” do and forget what we actually want to do. Do your actions align with your values?
What relationships add value to your life?
Not all relationships are equal. Some lift us up, while others drain us.
Reflect on the relationships that nurture and support you. Who brings value to your life, and who might you need to distance yourself from?
How do you prioritize your time?
We all have the same 24 hours, but how we use them makes a difference. Do you focus on what really matters, or do distractions get the best of you? Think about where your time goes and if it’s in line with your values.
What’s one thing you’d like to do more of?
Maybe it’s prioritizing self-care, diving into a creative project, or something else. What’s one thing you’d like to make more time for?
Setting Intentional Goals for the Future
Once you’ve reflected on where you’re at, it’s time to think about where you want to go. Setting goals is all about taking control of your future and aligning your actions with your dreams.
What are the top 3 goals you want to achieve this year?
Keep it simple. What are three things you’d love to accomplish this year?
Break them down into smaller, actionable steps so you’re not overwhelmed.
How can you break your goals into smaller steps?
Big goals can feel daunting. Breaking them down into manageable steps makes them feel more achievable.
What’s the first step you can take toward your big goal?
What does your ideal life look like 5 years from now?
Think long-term. Where do you want to be in five years? This vision can help guide your decisions and keep you motivated.
What kind of person do you want to be next year?
Growth isn’t just about what you achieve—it’s also about who you become. What qualities do you want to embody? Patience? Confidence? Compassion?
Focus on becoming the kind of person who naturally attracts the life you want.
Cultivating Positive Mindset and Self-Care
Self-care isn’t just about bubble baths (though those are nice too). It’s about nourishing your mind, body, and spirit for long-term well-being.
What self-care practices refresh you?
Self-care looks different for everyone. For me, it’s a walk in nature or reading a book. What’s your go-to way to recharge?
How can you improve your mental and emotional health?
Mental health is just as important as physical health. Do you have practices in place to keep your mind clear and balanced? Find what works for you—whether it’s journaling, therapy, or talking to a friend.
What would a perfect day of relaxation look like for you?
Picture your perfect day—are you at the beach, or cozy at home with your favorite snacks?
What would your ideal day of relaxation look like, and how can you incorporate a bit of it into your routine?
What affirmations do you need to hear daily?
Affirmations are powerful. What words do you need to hear? For me, it’s “I am enough.” What affirmations resonate with you?
Taking Action and Staying Accountable
Reflection is just the beginning. The real work begins when you take action.
Accountability can help keep you on track and motivated.
What’s one small action you can take today?
Don’t wait for the “perfect” moment. Do something today that moves you closer to your goal, no matter how small.
