This vegan parmesan cheese is a wonderful alternative to the traditional version!
You can make nutritious vegan parmesan cheese with just two simple ingredients and some seasonings. And this recipe tastes very similar to the real deal!
I love this vegan parmesan cheese, and I think you will too. At my house, we always keep this on hand in our refrigerator!
This vegan parmesan cheese can be added to anything you would use traditional parmesan cheese in, such as on top of:
-
Pizza
-
Pasta
-
Soups
-
Salads
Try it sprinkled in any savory meal instead of traditional parmesan cheese. You could also use it in recipes such as plant-based alfredo sauce, casseroles, sauces, and more!
The store sells vegan parmesan, but I prefer this homemade recipe. The store-bought varieties contain many ingredients that I try to avoid. This homemade version is also much healthier!

More About the Ingredients
Let’s look at the nutritious benefits of the ingredients in this recipe!
When you replace highly processed foods with some of the types of foods mentioned in this post, you’ll see big improvements in your health.
The nutritional yeast (also nicknamed “nooch”) in this recipe is not the same as baker’s or brewer’s.
Nutritional yeast is an inactivated version of the yeast used to make bread. Nutritional yeast has many health benefits, including:
-
It’s high in vitamins and minerals. It is a good source of vitamin B-12.
Vitamin B-12 is typically found in animal products. So, if you are vegan, plant-based, or even vegetarian, it’s often necessary to supplement vitamin B-12.
A vitamin B-12 deficiency can cause serious health problems. But eating nutritional yeast is another excellent way to sneak in some additional vitamin B-12.
-
It’s a good source of protein. It’s essential to get enough protein to build muscle and burn fat.
-
Nutritional yeast is full of antioxidants. Antioxidants can help fight inflammation. Inflammation can often be a factor in difficulty losing weight. Antioxidants can also help with premature aging.
The almond flour I use has one ingredient—almonds. I find that the super-fine almond flour works best.
Bob’s Red Mill super fine almond flour is made with skinless ground almonds that have been finely ground. That is what makes it great in this recipe. Almond flour is plant-based and gluten-free.
Almond flour also is:
High in protein
-
Rich in several vitamins and minerals, vitamin E. Vitamin E is an antioxidant.
-
A good source of healthy fats
-
Loaded with fiber, which keeps you fuller longer. This results in a lower intake of calories daily.
-
Good for stabilizing blood sugar. This can help with weight management, among other things.
The garlic powder and onion powder add an excellent flavor to the vegan parmesan.
Garlic powder and onion powered both contain antioxidants. They both also have anti-inflammatory properties.
